LESSON #6:

CREATE A MISSION STATEMENT

While putting my program together in preparation for the
journey that eventually would lead me to the Physique
Transformation contest win, I created my mission statement.

I used it as another important tool that allowed me to
focus on what was truly meaningful to me. It empowered
me to give it my all everyday. I read this mission
statement at least once, sometimes twice per day. Along
with my contract I would religiously read them once in
the morning upon awakening and another as I went to bed
as one of the last thoughts of the day.

My mission statement was very specific, just as yours needs
to be. What the mission statement does is outline the very
specifics of your program and what you need to do on a
regular basis in order to achieve your eventual final goals.
Here is exactly how mine read:

1) I promise myself today to be at 5% bodyfat or below by
9/19/98. I will do everything in my power to achieve this
goal.

2) I will be 100% strict on my diet for these entire 12
weeks. I need to ingest no more than 2,200 – 2,300 calories
per day, every day WITHOUT FAIL! I will alternate and allow
some higher calorie days on occasion only for the sole
purpose of not depleting myself too much.

3) I will commit 100% to my prescribed training routine AND
will complete my HIIT training 3 days per week.

Yours doesn’t have to be exactly like mine though it could.
But you HAVE to have one it is that important. And you must
place it in a conspicuous place so that you can read it at
least once per day. By consistently doing this every day
you will be training your mind to accept this ‘program’ as
a given and a virtual reality.

What do you have to do every day in order to achieve your
12-week goals? Here’s the best way to do it. Break your
goals down into easily achievable and measurable chunks.
If your goal is to lose 30 lbs of fat in 12 weeks then
this equates to an achievable and measurable 2.5 lb fat
loss per week. If your goal is a 10 lb muscle gain in 12
weeks this equals 0.8 lbs of lean mass gain per week. Do
you see how much more manageable a 30 lb fat loss or 10 lb
muscle gain goal can be when you break it down this way?

So now that you understand why it’s so important to do this,
what is your mission statement? And understand the
difference between the contract you have made and your
mission statement is that in your contract you will write
down everything you want to accomplish – your goals. Your
mission statement will provide the details on what you
have to do on a daily basis in order to accomplish those
goals.

You’ve heard the old adage, “If you fail to plan your are
planning to fail.” In no case is this truer than in the
difficult task of transforming your body.

Difficult if you don’t utilize these principles and

the gym, the almost instantaneous results you will achieve

a day, and wondering why I was so out of shape. While
drinking my beer I would always think about the diet I was
going to start on Monday. Then the next morning I would look
in the mirror, getting more and more upset with what I saw.

My attitude was starting to affect my family, my job, and
everything else I did. My wife would tell me I was becoming
very hard to live with and that my own children were even
afraid to speak with me. I finally stopped one day and took
a hard look at what I was doing to my family and asked
myself, “Why was I acting like this?”

The answer was easy…I had not started that Monday diet and
was angry with myself for not doing so. Finally I decided
to do something about it so off I went to the gym, new
diet in hand and at the time weighing 250 pounds. I ended
up losing 25 pounds but went up and down with the same 25
pounds at least six or seven times from January to the end
of September. I was the epitome of the yo-yo dieter.
Becoming more and more frustrated with my lack of progress
I became even more unbearable to be around.

One fateful day in the gym I met Harry Johnson who told me
about how his customized fitness program could help me. I
didn’t really believe him at first but somehow I just
trusted. I was desperate and ready to do just about
anything at this point. So I went home after my workout
and looked up the web site. To say that things haven’t
been the same since is an understatement.

October 9th through January 28th, 2000 is the short period
of time in my life that I will always remember. I was 225
pounds and 25% body fat on October 9th. I had also just
turned 40 three days before. By January 28th I was 173
pounds and 10% body fat, and a completely different
person to live with according to my wife and children. I
felt like a brand new man!

What made it all so easy for me was my diet and workout
was all laid out for me. All I had to do was follow it.

I had some real challenges during my program. At work I
would be on a morning shift and then two days later I would
find myself on the graveyard shift. Then within a couple
of days I would be back on second shift or flying out of
the state to work. I knew hours like that would affect the
way I slept and when I would work out.

So I decided that whenever I woke up, no matter what shift
I was on at the time, was when I was going to work out.
And because of my dynamically changing schedule I had less
energy than I would like for my workouts. However, once
there I was really motivated to giving it my all.

Things just kept getting better everyday. New things were
happening that I personally thought could never happen in
a million years. After two weeks of my morning run, one
day I thought to myself “this is really getting more and
more painful” as far as my breathing was concerned. As I
was running I made the decision that when I got home I would
throw that pack of cigarettes away that I had waiting for
me.

And it was as easy as that to end the smoking habit that
completely taken over my life. The strangest thing is now
I have absolutely no cravings for cigarettes at all! I had
tried to quit at least eight or ten times over the last
few years. This is one of the things I am so proud of. No
smoking…what a feeling of freedom for me.

In my fifth week it became evident that my jeans were a
little too large. So off to the department store I went
figuring maybe I would go from my size 40 to a size 36.
Much to my surprise I was walking out with a size 34.
Right now I am wearing size 30’s!

All I say now to all the people who have asked what I have
been doing is to go for it!!! Just follow every part of the
workout and diet that Harry Johnson has custom designed for
you and the results will be there.

I am living proof of that.

From a grumpy, beer drinking, fat couch potato, to where I
am now in such a short period of time is absolutely amazing.
I still can’t believe the reflection I see of myself in the
mirror; just ask my wife, even she can’t get over it. Not
to mention our time spent together now is great, quality
time without that grumpy man around anymore.

What is really motivating is the people that wouldn’t talk
to me in the gym before now come up and talk to me all the
time. They want to know what I did. They can’t believe the
changes in me, the physical part only being the most
obvious. I guess they thought I was unapproachable as even
my own family did.

Now I have a new confidence that wasn’t there when I was
miserable with myself before. I speak with people all the
time, and if they want to know what helped me change I am
more then happy to share what I have learned with them. I
let them all know about Harry and his program and hope some
of them will start it. I am so passionate to help people
learn what I have learned since I started this.

The amazing thing is my wife has started exercising and
eating better now. We also work out together too. It is
such great quality time we spend together, our married
life will never be the same.

My wife says she “loves being around me now.” She also
says I am the happy guy she married 23 years ago. Thanks
Harry for allowing me to regain my life.''

So you can see what happens when you decide to take this
journey of body fulfillment. Not only does your outside
self change, but your internal character dramatically
improves as well. And you can’t help but reflect this
change to the outside world.
